What to Look for in Photography Portfolios
When looking for a fantastic photographer to capture the memories of a particular time in your life (even if it's just a rare sighting of all the kids dressed up and in the same place), browsing portfolios is a must. What should you look for as you're browsing, though? I suggest watching for these factors.

Overall Photography Style
Whether you're booking maternity photos, senior portraits, family photos, or even headshots, photography has limitless visual styles. You want to book a photographer whose visual style matches the look you want for your photos, so check out the overall aesthetic of the
photos.

Posing and Direction
We all snap photos at family events or out with friends, then say, "Oh yikes, did I look like that?" It would help if you didn't have to worry about that with professional photography because that's part of a photographer's expertise, too – nailing the posing and lighting in your photos so you look phenomenal. So as you browse my galleries, look for natural-looking smiles, flattering posing and lighting, and how people look.

Attention to Detail
After years in photography, I know that fine details can make or break a photo. You might capture incredible lighting and a smile that could win pageants, but it ruins the portrait if your hair is awkwardly or halfway in your mouth. In the same way, the elegant draping of a maternity dress or the way a background color complements your skin tone can make a portrait look idyllic. Look for wonderful yet natural-looking details like these as you browse gallery photos.
